Why did William's title change from "Prince" to "Duke" after the wedding?

It did not, he's still prince. However, he uses Duke as his main title as long as Charles is not yet crowned. Out of respect for the memory of Diana, Kate does not use the title "Princess", and William is showing his solidarity by not using "Prince".
