Coleman percolator boil over?

I have a coleman stovetop percolator I just purchased new. I am having a hard time with it boiling over onto the stove. I have searched and searched for reviews but there aren't any people complaining about this boiling over problem. There are other complaints that I am not experiencing though. I have an electric stove and in my opinion that is the reason this percolator is not functioning properly. I can't search for ''electric stove percolator'' or variants of that, because 'electric percolator' takes over the search results. I have tried to put less water, and all the suggestions for different 'methods' people have come up with. This thing still boils over real bad all over the stove. The last time I hovered over the thing with oven mitts and raised it up at the slightest boil noise and the thing boiled over in mid-air. I give up. I have always liked the idea of a percolator and watching the coffee in the little glass bulb when it's 'ready' - now I'm not so sure. I am so disappointed.
